In Collaboration With Our Friends at Hong Kong Madame
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and we have put together date outfits taking into account the weather in 12 different cities across the globe, as well as cultural sensibilities.
If it’s a first date, here’s some more style advice for you here:
Style tip: New Yorkers stick to refined and polished style, with not a single hair out of place. They are not afraid to play around with colour either.
Casual Friday Date: Manhattan chic style. Head straight from the office to your date. Don’t forget your Winter coat and scarf. It’s freezing out there!
Style tip: Londoners prefer a more relaxed casual/formal look. You cannot go wrong with a classic trench and a polka dot gown.
Saturday Brunch Date: London relaxed style. A pair of white trainers for a low-key vibe. Thermal underwear will fight the cold for you.
Style tip: If you’ve read How to Be a Parisian Where Ever You Are you would know that Parisians tend to wear minimal makeup (perhaps a red lipstick), and prefer a pair of jeans, white T-shirt and a blazer, and black everything (trousers, skirts, jackets, dresses, you name it). But this is a date. You can wear the classic Little Black Dress, but try something romantic and feminine like this off-shoulder gown. Just be sure to stay clear of the metro at night because you will get a lot of attention. Take an Uber instead.
Saturday Dinner Date: Parisian romantic style. Let your hair down, and finish off with dangling earrings. Don’t forget your Winter coat, cashmere scarf and black leather gloves.
Style tip: A Milanese woman means business when it comes to fashion. Best wear something classic and simple, like a wrap dress. A pair of sunglasses completes the look. Make sure your accessories, bags, shoes, scarves are good quality. People take notice (when they are not).
Art Vernissage Date: Italian diva style. Hair up. Pearl earrings. Add a faux-fur coat to complete the look.
Style tip: Trendy but conservative, you won’t see loud colors here. Zurich fashionistas love designer accessories. Scarves are major signature piece, especially in the Winter.
Mid-Week Dinner Date: Swiss clean style. Add a scarf and you are good to go.
Style tip: Aim for classy and cute, always.
Jazz Club Night Date: Japanese cute and chic style. Strappy heels complete the look, and a mini dress.
Style tip: Busy Hong Kong ladies prefer simple style. Dress simply, and include a statement leather skirt or sleeves.
Drinks Date: Hong Kong style. A pair of kitten heels and you are good to go.
Style tip: Shanghai is China’s style capital. The modern Shanghainese fashionista would wear a pair of sexy boots, and a pair of jeans, not a dress.
Movie Night Date: Go see the latest movie, while wrapping up warm in a faux fur jacket.
Style tip: Close to the line of the equator, Singapore is hot! Ladies go for short, shorts. For your date, aim instead for light and feminine cotton dresses to stay cool in the heat.
Wedding Guest Date: Singaporean feminine style. Add a scarf and you are good to go.
Stroll Date: Singaporean chic. Take a stroll in the Singaporean botanic gardens with this easy, breezy look.
Style tip: Style here is conservative, a classy sleeveless dress that is just above the knee, would leave you looking chic, and cool against the sweltering heat. Go for bright colours.
Lunch Date: Lagosian chic style. Make sure you do your hair, nails and perfect finish your face.
